The South Australian Government is committed to increasing the participation of Aboriginal people residing in the South Australian community in employment and training. As a result of this commitment the Aboriginal Employment Program (AEP), a unit within the Employment and Skills Formation Directorate is responsible for the implementation of the following three programs that assist Aboriginal people in gaining employment and training opportunities in both the public and private sectors

Following the changes announced by the Prime Minister on 24 January 2006, the Office of Indigenous Policy Coordination (OIPC) became part of the new Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaCSIA) portfolio, formerly the Department of Family and Community Services (FaCS).

FaCSIA is the lead Australian Government agency in Indigenous Affairs, and has a range of programs to assist Indigenous people.

Indigenous Employment Policy:-The IEP has been implemented progressively from July 1999 in response to continuing high unemployment rates among Indigenous Australians and a demographic profile which indicated that the labour market disadvantages of Indigenous Australians would, in all likelihood, increase further unless special efforts were made.The IEP is part of the Government’s broader strategy for reducing the overall level of disadvantage amongst Indigenous Australians.

This is a brief summary of this Incorporated body “The Indigenous Information Network of South Australia Inc.” (TURKINDI)  a Kaurna name for coming together and sharing information.

Our network is an informal group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, Member and Non-Members who, through their work, are directly involved in assisting Indigenous people in finding meaningful employment, training or information relating to Indigenous Service providers.  We developed from a group of CES and other agency staff in 1990 whose role it was, to provide levels employment and training assistance to Indigenous clients of the CES.
